January’s character trait at BES has been fairness, when everyone gets what they need to be successful.
The Character Education team helped to elaborate on fairness through different examples and the video below.
Postcards
At the assembly a new postcard program was introduced. From now until the end of the school year, teachers will be sending encouraging postcards to all students at BES. Keep an eye out Kindergarten January is your month to receive postcards.
So keep an eye out throughout the rest of the school year!
January Character Counts Recipients
During January’s Character Education Assembly students who went above and beyond to model December’s character traits of empathy, being able to understand how someone feels, and compassion, wanting to help someone or something in need, were January’s Character Counts award recipients. Character Count recipients are selected by their classroom teachers to receive the monthly awards.

Merit Winners
Mountaineer Merits are awarded throughout the month for being responsible, safe and respectful. Elementary and Transportation staff award merit tickets to celebrate Mountaineers who demonstrate these traits. The students then deposit their merit into the Mountaineer Merit container found in the main hallway.
Principal Cataldo draws ten merit recipients (five from kindergarten to second grade and five from third to fifth grade) each month to receive recognition and a prize at the conclusion of each assembly.

Our Restorative Rockstar this month is Ms. Laura Houle!
Ms. Laura goes above and beyond to keep our school clean and classrooms stocked with needed supplies. She is always willing to help teachers and students! Ms. Laura always has a smile on her face and we love her daily greetings.
