In December, Berlin Elementary Principal Mrs. Cataldo hosted the monthly Character Education assembly for kindergarten through 5th-grade students. The BES Character Education Committee chose the theme, which included two character traits: compassion, meaning we care about others, treat them with kindness, and feel a strong desire to help people in need, and empathy, a feeling or understanding of what another person is feeling.
This month’s assembly coincided with the launch of the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society Pet Supply Drive.
For the last 25 years, first-grade teacher Mrs. Tracie Heinrichs has been supporting the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society in Menands and is hosting the pet drive again this year, collecting donations of food and supplies for animals in need. Read more about it here.

December Mountaineer Merit Winners

A BES Mountaineer is responsible, safe and respectful. Merits are given out by BES staff and bus drivers to celebrate Mountaineers who demonstrate these traits. The recipients receive merits that are deposited in the Mountaineer Merit container in BES’s main hallway.

Each month, Principal Cataldo draws the names of ten (one extra this month) merit recipients (five from kindergarten to second grade and five from third to fifth grade), who receive a prize and recognition at the assemblies. Please find December’s Merit winners below.

Congratulations to December’s Mountaineer Merit Winners: Ryan Gates, Eden Bourassa, Sophia Dunlop, Ensley Wood, Alyda Brock, Christopher Nissen, Caellum Etman, Derek Rojas, Dantevion Johnson, and Noah Forrest

Restorative Rockstar

Our Restorative Rockstar this month is Mr. Moseley!

Mr. Moseley goes above and beyond for all of our fifth grade students, supporting them with any needs they may have. He is always available to help our staff with any technology questions they may have.  He and his wife have enriched the lives of our students in fourth and fifth grade by providing them knowledge through their Guiding Eyes for the Blind presentations. Thank you for all you have done for our students and staff Mr. Moseley!

Thank you, fifth grade volunteers, for doing an excellent job leading the assembly in the Mountaineer Mantra!
