“School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure” Campaign highlights NSLW24

To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children each day, Berlin Central Schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 15-18, 2024. The fun and creative campaign theme, “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

At BES, teachers will be given the question for each day along with raffle tickets to hand out to students. The question of the day will be announced in the morning and teachers are asked to read the question to their students. Students will fill out a raffle ticket and turn into the teacher. Teachers will turn in the tickets to the kitchen and at the end of that lunch period, two students’ names will be drawn for a snack item. Friday will be a two part question for a special prize.

So for example, when the second grade students come into the cafeteria, the teacher will give the raffle tickets to the kitchen. Once all students have come through the line, the kitchen staff will draw two names. As long as the question has been answered correctly, the student whose name is drawn will get a free snack.

At the BMHS, each day the question will be randomly placed throughout the building. Students will need to locate the question and then place their answer in a box in the kitchen. Each lunch period, as soon as all students have come through the line, two names will be drawn. As long as the question is answered correctly they will win a free snack. Friday there will be a three part question for a special prize.

Also, for every lunch “purchased” during the week, on Friday, the students name will go into one big drawing at each building, for a $10 Amazon gift card.

The “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association. Parents and students can follow the fun on social media using the hashtags #NSLW24, #SchoolLunchPirates and #SchoolLunch.
