The Berlin Central School District’s Transportation Department has had a busy first month of school, with daily morning, afternoon, and after school runs, out-of-district runs, and BNL practices and games keeping the department fully extended. The transportation team has been doing an excellent job keeping up with the demand with a limited number of drivers.
The district’s dedicated drivers and attendants are committed to safety on the bus and completed the first Emergency Bus Drills for the school year during the month of September.
The BMHS and BES Mountaineers did an excellent job during the drills, displaying their commitment to being responsible, safe, and respectful on the bus.
In line with the commitment to bus safety, Transportation Supervisor Mrs. Jeaneatte Alderman held the third annual bus safety orientation for the youngest Mountaineers at the end of summer. This orientation, for pre-K and kindergarten students, includes safety lessons, riding the bus, getting on and off, buckling seat belts, crossing roads, and instruction on proper seating. The pre-K and kindergarten Mountaineers have done an excellent job applying what they learned at orientation this month. If you would like a reminder for your student about bus safety, find the bus safety video from orientation at the link here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCxOzgM7Zjo .
A bus safety reminder for our community: Stop on Red, Kids Ahead! For more information and tips on school bus safety, check the DMV website here https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/school-bus-safety.
Note that cameras on buses record when lights are flashing; passing a bus with flashing lights could result in a citation, grave injury or an accident.
Thank you, Berlin CSD, drivers, attendants, and mechanics, for all you do to keep the district running daily!
