Members of the BMHS Fishing Club met early Saturday morning (6/3) to get some lines in the water for competitive fun up to Grafton Lakes State Park. Participating members were divided into four teams of two and were tasked with trying to catch the biggest fish, as well as the most fish (and most species) out of Long Pond or Second Pond in the Grafton Park. Doubles teams were Anthony Williams and Gage Willis, Dedrick Bolt and Dan Hendricks, Jameson Hawkins and Seth Hendricks, as well as Julianna Maldonado and Nate Hendricks. Gage and Anthony won biggest fish with an impressive largemouth bass. Dan and Dedrick won most fish and most species with a blend of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, blue gill, pumpkinseed, and perch – totaling 16 fish between the two of them. All teams contributed to the fish count of the day, with club members and advisors landing a total of 40 fish in just 3 hours of competition! Shoutout to those who stayed an extra hour while the bite was hot, bringing the total to 46 fish for the day. Scroll through to see the variety of nice catches our Mountaineers landed on Saturday! Mr. Scannell and Ms. Marbot would like to thank all of the students who made the first year of Fishing Club so special and would also like to extend a huge thank you to all of the families who brought club members to the lakes multiple times this year. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing fishing community. A final thank you must be extended to the Rensselaer County Conservation Alliance for their continuous support and a donation of rods and tackle to be used on the day of our event. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Keep fishing all!
