Please find an update on give back snow days from Superintendent which was emailed home to all families on April 26, 2023.

April 26, 2023

Dear Berlin parents,

This school year 2022-2023 we have used 6 school closure days (snow days).

We had 6 snow days built into our district calendar for the 2022-2023 school year.

Since we have used up all 6 snow days this school year, there will be No snow give back days this school year in May.

A question has been asked about whether the district will get a waiver for one of the snow days because of a State of Emergency declared by the Governor and the County for Tuesday, March 14th.

We will not be getting any waivers for Berlin CSD.

SED guidance expressly states that if a school district is not short of 180 instructional days, no application for any emergency declaration school closure days to be counted as instructional days should be submitted.

If, and only if, the District is “short of 180 days at the end of the school year due to the closure required by an emergency declaration,” the required information should be submitted “when claiming the days on schedule 8” (on SAMS).

We are not short on the 180 instructional days since we had 6 snow days built into the calendar and we used 6 snow days.

As a result, we will have school on all of the following days:

  • May 22, 2023
  • May 23, 2023
  • May 24, 2023
  • May 25, 2023
  • May 26, 2023
  • May 30, 2023

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Joseph Dhara
Superintendent
