The BNL Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country went to Queensbury this weekend to compete in Sectionals.
The BNL Girls were up against some tough competition, including former class c champions Voorheesville who had been dropped down into class D this year. Leading the way for the girls were Allura Meizinger in 11th, senior Elsie Corbett 22nd, Vivian Whelan 34th, senior Samantha Rojker in 45th, and Elaine Savaria in 60th. It was a hard run race with Berlin New Lebanon placing 5th overall, missing 4th by only 1 point, and missing 3rd by 6 points. Berlin New Lebanon girls ran their best and the coaches are proud of all they’ve done.
The BNL Boys took to the course projected to be in the top 3 amongst some tough competition against Lake George and Maple Hill. Junior Gabe Kalisz ran like the wind for a 4th place finish amongst some of section 2’s best. Behind him came Seth Hendricks in 23rd, senior Raymond Ericson in 25th, Lance Schroeder in 28th, senior Danny Hendricks in 40th, Aidan Van Dyk in 42, and Eben Donohue in 62nd. The boys secured a dominant 3rd place, beating the next team by 30 points. Good work boys, you earned this win.
Additionally, being in the top 5 runners secured Gabe Kalisz a spot to compete as an individual this year at states. So if you see Gabe in the halls this week or out running, make sure to cheer him on!
