On October 18, Superintendent Dhara stopped by the BES fourth grade to talk about New York State geography. Mr. Dhara has a special interest in geography, especially when it comes to the Syracuse region, where he is from.
The students learned some interesting facts about the Emerald City in western New York. When Mr. Dhara asked them about the ways to travel to Syracuse from our region, the top suggestions were cars, planes, helicopters, buses and bicycles. Many students were surprised to learn that boats used to be the most important way to move goods and people from west to east in New York State. The discussion led to talking about the Erie Canal, the next topic of study for the fourth grade students.
The visit was a great way for students to launch into their next unit of study and for Mr. Dhara to get to know – and introduce himself to – fourth graders at BCSD.
