Extend School Year (ESY) is a program which offers specialized instruction or related services that align with a child’s IEP (short for Individualized Education Program). This program therefore is not the same as a summer school program.

ESY is an opportunity to provide services when school is not typically in session. The services are individualized to help each child maintain skills and the progress they have made toward goals, whether it be through services like one-to-one tutoring or occupational therapy.

Ms. Brewer, Berlin Central School District’s Director of Exceptional Education, has assembled an excellent team this year, Ms. Baker, Ms. Gundrum and Ms. Williams, to run the six week program at the Berlin Elementary School.

“We are very happy to have been able to offer an in-person ESY program this summer,” said Ms. Brewer.

“Our students have worked to maintain skills, while also having a little fun!”
