Girls Varsity Volleyball  vs Tamarac

The BNL Girls Varsity Volleyball match against  Tamarac was a good match.  The BNL girls played well but couldn’t get the win. It was a good showing but they came up short in 3 sets. I’m proud of the girls and the skills they are learning. The scores were 18-25 , 19-25 and 16-25. -Coach Slaver

Boys Varsity Soccer vs Hoosic Valley

Yesterday the BNL boys went to Hoosic Valley and after falling behind by 1 goal took the lead and never game it up.  I guess you could say that they all had a case of the Mondays as we came out slow in the beginning, but as we started to create more and more momentum we were up 2-1 at the half after two Winter Exley goals, then Kasey Billert came off the bench and scored 2 goals in less than 8 minutes, and things just started to fall our way.  The team created a lot of chances and held onto the momentum.  Excellent play by many players and a few stand out performances.  Kevin Chitternden was great in the goal, Garrett Votra continued his positive play, as Wyatt Powers, Danny Hunt, and Gabe Colin all helped to control the game in the midfield.  What a great team win. -Coach Gould

Boys JV Soccer vs Hoosic Valley

The boys JV soccer team didn’t snap back from their Saturday game and got off to a slow start against Hoosic Valley. The team spotted HV 2 points before Chris Shorter connected for a goal. In the  last 20 minutes of play BNL started firing on all cylinders and put 8 shots on goal forcing the HV goalie to make some hard saves and clanging the ball off both posts and the cross bar.  Levi Dodge was a big part of the team revving up and along with Liam Buckenroth played from one end of the field to the other. Kristjon Culbertson had 11 saves. Unfortunately the winning streak ended in a 1-2 loss. – Coach Burhans

Cross Country: Girls and Boys Varsity Meet @ Stillwater

The Berlin/New Lebanon XC team went to Stillwater on Friday to do what they do best, run real fast over long distances. Matt Kluck got another 1st place win with a time of 16:21, beating out the next runner by 17 seconds. Michael Loughlin had a neck and neck, back and forth, knock down sprint over the last 1/2 mile with the number 1 Stillwater boy that had the entire crowd on their feet and shouting. Michael did his best but couldn’t hold onto the lead in the last 200 meters and came in 3rd by only 6 seconds. Aidan Van Dyk made a huge jump in his pace and came in 10th and Layne came in shortly after to claim 11th place. Girls Varsity Volleyball  vs Waterford

Our last game of the season was at Waterford on Monday 4/26. It was a emotional time for our seniors, because it sunk in that this was the last time they put on a jersey for a high school team. We had all five seniors!  They all gave a lot of heart. The scores were 14-25, 12-25,and 12-25. I’m very proud of these girls. We belong in this league and we can only improve every year. We gave the top teams a run for there money playing four or five games against them, usually we get skunked but not this year. Great job ladies so proud. And to the seniors good luck with whatever you do. Go BNL! -Coach Slaver

BNL Boys Varsity Soccer vs Greenwich
A final message from Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Mr. Gould on the soccer season of 2020-21.
On a beautiful spring day, BNL and Greenwich met up in the first round of the WASAREN League tournament.
The two teams played well and the matchup went back and forth throughout the 80 minutes. Berlin opened the scoring early when the Danimal- Danny Hunt scored off a Captain Kasey Billert’s corner kick. BNL then missed a pk on an exceptional save by the Greenwich keeper, and hit the post twice in the next few minutes. Greenwich then scored the next 3 goals, each one was well developed and was created by exceptional individual play.  BNL found themselves down 3-1 at the half, but having controlled the midfield throughout the game, we knew we had a great chance to roar back.
In the second half Kasey Billert faked out two Greenwich defenders with two unreal “sick” moves and scored unassisted with a blast from 20 yards away into the lower 90.  As we pressed them for the last 30 minutes of the game. It was a brilliant display of what soccer is supposed to look like.  The passing was crisp and the opportunities were ample, we just couldn’t break through when they put 7 to 8 players back on defense and tried to create a wall in front of their goal.  We left our goal exposed a bit as Gabe Hart and Garrett Votra played more into the offensive end, and they scored their last goal on a counter when our defense was playing up.
Kasey, Winter, and Wyatt each outworked Greenwich’s defense while being double and triple covered at different times, Danny Hunt, Matt Hart, Gabe Colin and Gage Willis did a wonderful job controlling the midfield.  Our defense led by Anthony Prather did an outstanding job containing some of the most aggressive offensive players in the league.  The contributions from Jacob “Ace” Brazie, Sam Herrick, and Malik Plouffe held the team together at critical moments in the game. Kudos to Matt Corsey who’s positive attitude is infectious and who may have found an offensive position he loves.
Kevin Chitternden was a standout in goal, Ben Chaput played his most complete game as a defender, we had great contributions all over the field.  The positive energy coming from the bench was critical.  On the bench with an injury, Dylan Lambert- added his own flavor to each moment suggesting different things and helping the players stay focused. Everyone who got on the field gave 1000%, it just wasn’t our day.
I am very proud of what we accomplished this year, the growth for the soccer program at all levels is evident, and I am looking forward to the fall.  I am content in knowing that we did absolutely all we could given the constructs of our current times to perform our very best.  When I asked these fellas to do more, they did, when I asked them to work harder, they did, when I asked them to play with joy, they did.  I am glad to have been a part of this.
I would like to thank Wade Prather, a parent and a wrestling coach in our district for helping this year from the bench, his assistance and good humor was a wonderful addition.
Come out and see us in the fall! – Coach Gould
