BNL Varsity Girls Soccer

The Berlin-New Lebanon Varsity Girls Soccer team scored a win in its first game in program history, with a 2-1 victory over Saratoga Catholic on Tuesday. Freshman, Rilynn Jones opened the scoring midway through the first half, with Saratoga Catholic equalizing in the second by senior, Maya Turcotte. Senior, Rachel Bortnick scored the go ahead goal for BNL with about ten minutes left in the game. Senior keeper, Emily Wenke recorded 16 saves for Saratoga Catholic, while Kai Krause  had three saves for BNL in net.

 BNL Cross Country

The BNL Boys ran first with a good showing from Matt Kluck taking an early lead, but Michael Loughlin and the other boys were right behind! It was only 2.5 miles, but with no summer running training it was a challenge. Matt Kluck came in 4th overall with a time of 16:37 followed by Michael Loughlin in 8th place with a time of 17:24.
Rounding out the BNL Boys in their first varsity races were Aidan Van Dyk and Layne Chaykowski-Jewett with times of 18:25 and 18:51. Coach Viner was very proud of their runs!
Finally, in his first Cross Country (XC) race ever, and representing New Lebanon for the first time ever in 65+ years at a meet, Carl Truax came in 14th with a finishing time of 24:10!  Way to go Carl!  While the meet was a loss, with a score of Greenwich 17 BNL 38, all of the XC coaches were ecstatic!

The BNL Girls’ race was an exciting race as well! Elsie Corbett came in at a close 3rd only 3 seconds behind the 2nd place Greenwich runner at an official time of 17:00!  Coming in second for the BNL Girls and 5th overall with a time of 18:09 in her first ever race in XC was Allura Meizinger! The BNL XC coaches were very impressed with Allura’s run. In 7th and 9th overall were Sadie Giumarra and Hailey Beckwith at 19:03 and 19:14. Sadie and Hailey managed to put the BNL runners in between other runners and break up the pack in a very meaningful way! Coming in close behind Hailey was Brady Hills at a time of 19:17. Finally, in her very first XC run as well, Elaine Savaria came in at 21:19, getting between the remaining girls. Great job everyone, BNL pulled ahead of the other teams to secure the win at 17 to 42. You absolutely crushed it!
