Dear Families:

I hope this letter finds all of you in good health.  We greatly appreciate the work which you and your children are doing to support their education.  We know these are trying times which make work from home difficult and we appreciate your continued efforts as we move forward.  At this time we know school will remain closed until May 15. The Superintendent, Dr. Stephen Young will continue to share updates with you, as they become available from the Governor and the State Education Department.

At this time, we will continue to deliver work to the homes of those students who do not have internet access.  We believe we have the names of those who require printed copies of work. If you do not have internet access and have not been receiving printed copies of work, please email Ms. Candy Sweener at csweener@berlincentral.org.  The requests should be limited only to those without internet.  We are aware some areas have spotty internet but need to limit deliveries to those without access.  Deliveries from the Middle High School will only be made on Wednesdays with the food program.

Families have questioned how to return work to teachers.  Students doing work electronically should make every effort to return it electronically.  Your child’s teacher has been asked to set up work to be returned electronically. Some students have found it easier to take a photo of their work to return it to their teacher.  If you do not have internet, you can also use this method if you have cell phone access. Otherwise, you will need to mail the work to school or drop it off at the MSHS building. There is a container in the front hall of the building to return work.  Our school’s front entrance is open from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. Please do not come into the building beyond the front hall. We cannot pick up completed work with food deliveries as we cannot risk cross contamination or a spread to our staff who deliver food.

All of the work being done by our students has been and will continue to be graded for a quarterly mark to be put on their official grades.  This applies to all students in grades 6-12 without exception. Please be sure your children are aware of this information on grading. While we understand not all are able to stay in touch via the internet, we are open to delivering paper copies to those families who need them.  If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please call the Main Office at school and leave a message. I will return it as soon as I am in the office.

We continue to make plans for our Seniors who are missing so much of their final year at Berlin.  Many of you have taken the time to express concern for their losses over several forms of social media.  However, at this time the only cancellation has been the Senior Trip. We are exploring many different options for continuing their senior experience.  Last week we had a parking lot meeting to announce the top students in the class. Congratulations to Salutatorian, Selena Bierwirth and Co-Valedictorians, Kate Locket and Jackson Flowers.  We are proud of all of our seniors and will continue to celebrate their success.

We are grateful for the support of our staff and teachers during this time.  We know you are making every effort to support your children’s education. We are proud of the work children are doing to stay on track with their learning.  I wish you and your families well during this time. We hope to see everyone as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Catherine Allain
