Modified Boys Soccer
The Berlin/New Lebanon boys modified soccer team traveled to Stillwater Friday. Both teams came out on fire in the first half. Stillwater got the upper hand and got one in the net late with 5 minutes left in the first half. The boys didn’t give up and before time would expire Jared Bruns (NL) found himself all alone inside the 18 and drilled one into the goal. After halftime the momentum changed and Stillwater was able to push pass Berlin/New Lebanon’s defense and hit the back of the net. Kaleb Sweener (Berlin) was the player of the game with another 14 saves in goal.

Varsity  Girls Soccer
It was a hot day on Saturday as our Berlin Lady Mountain Lions took on the mighty Middlebourgh Knights. Despite being a worthy opponent, the Knights proved to be helpless against the offensive pushes of the Lady Lions. Berlin struck early in the 1st half with a cross from Chloe Meyers that led to a beautiful finish by Claire Barnum that pegged the goalie. Jordanne Brazie later went on to score the next goal from a shot 40 yards out that also pegged the goalie. They were no match for Berlin’s goal kicks as they cleared every time. The Mountain Lions later went on defense mode to shut out the Knights 2-0. Great effort was shown in the back line from defensemen such as Lizzy Hunt, Lauren Meyer, and Kylieann Krause. Sophomore keeper Sophie Ericson added another shutout to her resume.

Modified Girls Volleyball
Girls modified volleyball lost 2-1 against Hoosic Valley Friday. Even so, these were some of our best games yet. Aliza Beaudry wowed everyone with her continuous run of aces in her 1st match this season. Sarah Roy kept our spirits up with her motivational chatter. Alexis Rifenburg put up some beautiful 2nd hit sets for her teammates. This whole team sets the example when it comes to energy, effort and attitude!

Cross Country
The XC team traveled to Utica to compete against some of the best of Section 3. Aidan Van Dyk was a team of 1 and finished 46th amongst over 150 runners shaving over a minute from last years’ time. The boys finished in the middle of a crowded field led by Collin Douglas who finished 32nd and Michael Loughlin who finished just over the 20 minute mark. Phil Oakes continues to improve by shaving almost 4 mins off from last week’s invy.

The girls are rounding out and proving why they are one of the favorites for the section 2 crown. The girls were led by 6th place finisher Elsie Corbett who held the position the whole race. Brady Hills looked determined to lead the rest of the pack and finished 29th and Sadie Giumarra lost a shoe early, kicked off the other one and ran shoeless for 2.5 miles helping the girls claim 6th place and 3rd amongst class D schools.

Varsity Boys Soccer
Friday night under the bright lights down at the Den… Our wild coyotes took the field and took on the boys from Bishop Magin, and beat them 1-0. We are a team above all else and worked as a unit to earn this win. This pack of wild dogs controlled the ball for over 90% of the game and never allowed their opponents to take control. Great leadership all over the field, Conner Votra organized the defense as Cody Hunt pushed the offense. Key plays all over the field and contributions from nearly every player on the team. Kasey Billert knocked in the winner.

Modified Boys Soccer

The Berlin/New Lebanon Boys Modified Soccer team took on Tamarac yesterday in a fast moving game. Even though it was cloudy and rainy, the Berlin/New Lebanon boys came to make a statement. Having early chances in the beginning of the game, they couldn’t get the ball past Tamarac’s goalie. Late in the first half, Aiden Cave (Berlin) took the direct kick for the team and booted one right through the hands of the goalie. Jonah Lottey (New Lebanon) got his head into the game and tipped the ball over to Nate Hendricks (Berlin) who drilled one into the net. Jonah wanted to feed Nate one more time, on a 50/50 ball Jonah leaped into the air, got the upper hand, and found Nate all alone to put another one in goal. Jared Bruns (New Lebanon) wanted a little taste of the action and took the ball down the field. Fighting through 3 of Tamarac’s defenders, Jared broke free and crossed the ball in. Logan Healy (Berlin) came out of nowhere and finished the job. Gabe Kalisz (New Lebanon), Mason Garhart (Berlin), and Tyler Carinci (New Lebanon) played great defense to keep Kaleb Sweener (Berlin) only seeing the ball 8 times in goal. All players off the bench played a key role in the shutout. Player of the game was Nate Hendricks. The boys travel to Hoosic Valley Friday for their next game. Game time is 4:15.

The boys JV soccer team added another win to their record yesterday defeating Tamarac 5-1. The team dominated the first half, scoring 4 goals and once again the defense dominated the game. Gage Willis brought the hustle on offense, setting up many of the goals, earning several assists and scoring a goal as well.  Adding to the scoring was Ray Ericson with a goal, and Chris Shorter with 2 goals. Kristjon Culberston was once again amazing in goal, especially considering how well he handled the ball in the wet conditions.

Modified Boys Soccer
The Berlin/New Lebanon boys modified soccer team traveled to Hoosic Valley Friday night in an intense game of soccer. Hoosic Valley came out on fire pushing Berlin/ New Lebanon’s defense to their limits. Hoosic Valley went up one goal early and thought they could let up. The boys regrouped and went full beast mode. Dominating the second half the boys went up 2-1. Miscommunication with Berlin/ New Lebanon’s defense would allow Hoosic Valley to tie the game. But the boys answered back and took the lead. Finishing with strong defense and great communication the boys took home the win. Logan Healy (Berlin) was the lone scorer who put all 3 goals in for Berlin/ New Lebanon. Jared Bruns (New Lebanon) was dominant on the field offensively and defensively. He walked away with 2 assists.  Kaleb Sweener (Berlin) was an animal in goal once again and had 8 saves. Jonah Lottey (New Lebanon) took care of the 50/50 balls and continuously fought for the ball. Aiden Cave (Berlin) was a monster on defense and kept the team together. Player of the game went to Aiden Cave. They boys travel to Waterford today. Game time is 4:15.

Modified Girls Volleyball

Girls modified volleyball traveled to Saratoga Catholic Friday.  Aliza Beaudry had an impressive 1st time overhand serve. Rebecca Smith had fun with a new 5-1 rotation. Sarah Roy was clutch as libero. In the end, the ride proved to be too much and we struggled to find our rhythm. We look forward to taking on Stillwater tonight at home.
