On August 19th, 9th grade members of FCCLA were invited to attend an Open District Meeting by Cobleskill-Richmondville FCCLA.  The meeting was held at SUNY Cobleskill from 8:30-2:00.

Opening the meeting was SUNY Cobleskill President,  Dr. Marion Terenzio.  She encouraged students to focus on leadership, finish school and attend college.  Then she told them to enjoy their day as they explored SUNY Cobleskill programs in the areas of Early Childhood Education, Graphic Design and Culinary Arts.

The students who attended the Culinary Arts worked side by side with SUNY Cobleskill Culinary Arts students in preparing chicken cutlets with tomato sauce and pasta made from scratch.  After the workshop session all students attended lunch in the dining hall with a variety of choices from “normal” hot dogs and hamburgers to calamari.  The college offered free lunch to all participants.

The Open District meeting continued with a round table discussion on FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences), FCCLA STAR events, samples of STAR events, etc.  Berlin Central Chapter President, Ariana Hendricks, spoke about the advantages of doing a STAR event at the state and national levels.  She talked about how STAR events have increased her self-confidence, self-esteem and public speaking skills.

She also stated by joining FCCLA she has better leadership skills.  Other students that joined Ariana on this trip were Cloey Meyers, Sarah Lindell-Gryn and Claire Barnum.
