Today at Berlin High School, a student alerted staff that an unknown person had made threats on social media stating clowns were coming to schools to cause harm.  The District immediately responded by contacting law enforcement, who then investigated the threat.  At this time, the Sheriff’s Department has determined the threat to be part of a hoax that has been circulating the internet for some time.  They do not believe the threat is credible and have advised the District to operate as usual.

You may have heard on the news that similar hoaxes have popped up in areas throughout the country, including in several local school districts.  Even though this reported threat did not name any specific schools or locations, the District takes any and all threats seriously.

Please know that safety is of the utmost importance at Berlin Central School District.  We are grateful to the student who came forward to report the situation.  We ask that you please reinforce with your children the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to an adult as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Cathie Allain
Berlin Middle/High School Principal
