About Us

Berlin Central School District is a small, rural public school district located in eastern Rensselaer County, approximately 25 miles east of Albany, N.Y.

The district serves about 730 school children in two school buildings – Berlin Elementary School and Berlin Middle/High School.  The district includes five towns: Berlin, Grafton, Petersburgh, Poestenkill and Stephentown.  Our school district population is approximately 6,800 residents.  We are equidistant from Troy, NY, Pittsfield, MA, and Bennington, VT. Residents either commute to these areas or work locally.  The area’s major industries are wood and wood products, custom metal fabrication and machining, and manufacturing of high technology electronic components for microwave communication industries.

One of the district’s greatest strengths is its community, which is greatly involved in the district. The community regularly volunteers to help in its schools, from volunteers helping in classes to students leading community projects such as improving the school’s softball and baseball fields.

At Berlin Central School District, our focus is on maximizing the diverse talents and aspirations of our students and developing successful, responsible, and contributing members of our 21st Century society. We provide a challenging curriculum that meets or exceeds NY State’s common core standards and our well–trained faculty are dedicated professionals; coordinating efforts among the school, family, and community to foster high expectations and provide the best opportunities for our students to succeed. Thanks to our supportive community, Berlin Central School District students enjoy a hands-on, interactive approach to learning in modern, updated facilities with access to the latest learning technology.
