Officer Davendonis and his four-legged partner Inferno, a Yellow LabLast week, students at Berlin Elementary school were visited by some very special officers who talked about the work police dogs do right in their communities. From the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Geracitano, and Officer Davendonis and his four-legged partner Inferno, a Yellow Lab trained in Accelerant Detection, along with Village of Nassau Police Department Officer Bunney and his four-legged partner Jax, a German Shepard trained in tracking, narcotics and patrol.

Officers explained to students how both Inferno and Jax use their amazing sense of Village of Nassau Police Department Officer Bunney and his four-legged partner Jaxsmell to perform other aspects of police work. Inferno and Jax have both been trained to sniff out substances, as well as apprehend criminals and find lost or missing people.

While not working, Jax and Inferno live with their handlers and their families. We would like to thank Deputy Jeff Russo for coordinating this visit, and a big thank you to Officer Geracitano, Officer Davendonis, Inferno, Officer Bunney and Jax!
